Frequently Asked Questions

When and where are tryouts held?

Tryouts are generally in mid-July each year for the girls and early-August for the boys. Check out our tryouts page for more info.

We are located at:

7022 AC Skinner Pkwy
Jacksonville, FL 32256

What is the tryout process?

Our tryout process is a little unique in that we’re partnered with TeamGenius, which allows our coaches to utilize an app to input evaluations of athletes. In this app, we’re able to rate specific skills, take notes, enter team recommendations, and even take video clips.

We believe that our process is truly exceptional because it not only allows the head coach for that team to evaluate, but also allows the coacehs and directors to view other evaluations so that we can come up with a consensus opinion on what the best combination of athletes is for each team.

We will combine skill evaluation with live play opportunities to give athletes ample chances to show their talents. Additionally, we not only evaluate current talent, but also value POTENTIAL and ability to learn. Many athletes make teams because we trust our training and those athletes show us traits that have succeeded at higher levels.

How is the Jax Skyline tryout different from other clubs?

Jacksonville Skyline is focused on offering next-level training for the driven athlete. Our Directors’ experience with great coaches at the collegiate and USA Volleyball level has given us an expertise and connections to developmental training like none other. We are a family-oriented club and subscribe to the mantra of “Coaching is teaching, not yelling”. We hold our athletes to a high standard in terms of their effort and focus when training while also emphasizing strong character and being a great teammate.

If you’re serious about development, consistency, and long-term success, Jacksonville Skyline offers an experience no other club in the area can match. Our leadership and coaches have immense experience at the highest level and know what it takes for athletes to reach their full potential- evidenced by how quickly Skyline has grown and the amount of athletes that are now playing in college from the last few graduating classes.

What if I’m not able to make a tryout?

We do all we can to give athletes alternative times to try out for teams. We run pre-tryout evaluations starting 2 weeks before tryouts and will have makeup tryouts in the event we are in need of specific positions after the tryout process is completed.

How do I register for tryouts?

Once tryout dates and times are announced, registration links will be available in iTeamApp.

What if my child doesn’t make a team?

Athletes that do not make a team can still get Skyline training in public clinics and camps. Additionally, if they are middle-school aged or younger, there is always fall Mini Club as well as Mini Travel- which is an extended Mini Club season where the teams play locally through April.

Is there an opportunity to talk to current parents or staff before tryouts?

Talking to players and parents is a great way to get a feel for the culture here at Skyline. We encourage it, as our athlete return rate is over 97%, so we feel we’re doing things the right way. Much of that is due to the family culture we’ve created and nurture every day in the gym.

The best way to get connected to players and families for those not on a team is through the public clinics and camps. Additionally, we encourage you to talk to coaches and the leadership group here at Skyline, as we feel we have an incredible group of great people and coaches!

Does this info differ from boys and girls club?

Our tryout process is virtually the same for the boys and the girls.
