Introducing Club Prep!

Starting in January, we will be offering an opportunity for new athletes to the sport to get an idea of what club volleyball is all about…a chance to “dip your toe in the water”, so to speak!

The program is called Club Prep. Club Prep is less involved than our regular travel teams- lower price, less practice and fewer tournaments- but still with the Skyline skill training that will prepare your child for their next level of volleyball! At Skyline, we “Master Train” for all of our teams, which means that all of our skill training will be lead by Hugh or Steph Hernesman-  who have over 20 years of experience as college coaches (as “high” as NCAA DI in the ACC conference). The Club Prep group will be training on a separate court, but at the same time and often in conjunction with our 12U travel team.

OVERVIEW

  • 90-minute training session once a week
  • Practices begin Wednesday, January 9th, 2019
  • Practices conclude in April of 2019
  • Two (2) Club Tournaments included January – April
  • Wednesday’s 6:00-7:30pm
  • You can join anytime
  • Open to Girls and Boys

Setter U: Final 2018 Session

Setter U’s 1st two sessions have been a huge success and we have see major gains in just a couple months. We’re very excited to be starting our final 5-week session for 2018 on Sunday, November 11th. Setter U  is Jacksonville Skyline’s setter training academy which will be lead by Jacksonville Skyline Co-Director Hugh Hernesman. Coach Hugh has been training setters for 20 years- 18 of those years at the collegiate level. Among many accolades, he has trained two AVCA All-Region setters and two AVCA All-American setters.

Setting is one of the most under-taught and under-trained skills at the youth level. It involves a large amount of technical instruction on top of a high number of productive repetitions. Setter U offers specialized setter training for both beginners and advanced setters once a week on Sunday afternoons. Go to the Setter U page to learn more or sign up HERE.

Passing and Attacking Skill Clinics- Fri, Nov 2nd & 9th

We’ll be hosting two skill clinics on the first two Friday’s in November- November 2nd and November 9th. Our Passing and Attacking clinics will be designed for the more experienced players- ages 13 and older. In these clinics we will be working on advanced techniques and fundamental cues that we’ve learned and developed in our time with USA Volleyball as well as our 20+ years as collegiate coaches. Attentive players can learn and apply these techniques for use well beyond their 1-hour on the court with us.

Our Passing Clinic will focus on serve receive movement and passing techniques that our past college and club athletes have had tons of success with. Our Attacking Clinic will focus on technical armswing mechanics as well as deception and core engagement for increased power in the attack.

Be sure to register on our SKYLINE EVENTS link to reserve your spot, as we are limiting attendees for each clinic to 16 athletes.

Sun, 11/11: 11U & 12U Supplemental Tryout

SUPPLEMENTAL TRYOUT- AGES 11U & 12U: Sunday, November 11th from 1-3pm.

We already have a full combined 11’s/12’s team, but would love to form two separate teams at the 11’s and 12’s. With most middle school seasons finished, now is the time to keep growing your game. For those just starting their middle school seasons, this is the route to grow fast in the sport! Click HERE to register!

Skyline Visits Marquette

Our goal of keeping up with the highest level of training brought us to Marquette Volleyball’s preseason practice yesterday. Thankful for all of our college coaching relationships built over the years and Coach Theis is one of our strongest. Great program and culture. This group is very driven and ranked #26 in the pre-season polls and picked to win the Big East Conference. Thanks for having us!

Introducing Mini-Club!!

New to Skyline this year is Fall Mini-Club! Mini-Club is designed to give playing opportunities to younger athletes in a relaxed setting where the focus can be on fundamental skill training. This is an excellent introduction for young players interested in volleyball.

Mini-Club also is a great program for athletes that are just starting playing volleyball, haven’t started middle school volleyball yet, don’t make their competitive middle school team, or their middle school seasons don’t start until November.

Placement is for all skill levels and is scheduled for Saturday, August 11th. Ages 12 and Under are from 1-3; and ages 13-15 are from 3-5. Be sure to register HERE!

Florida Gators Staff to Attend Pre-Tryout Camp

We are very excited to announce that Florida Gator Associate Head Coach Dave Boos will be a guest instructor at our Pre-Tryout Camp from July 23-26. Jacksonville Skyline Co-Directors Hugh and Steph Hernesman coached with Coach Boos for 3 years prior to his arrival in Gainesville.

The similarities between the Skyline and Florida training styles will be on full display and campers will see how the Hernesman’s were able to have over two decades of success at the collegiate level prior to coming to Jacksonville.

What Makes Jax Skyline Different

Jacksonville Skyline is unlike any club in the Jacksonville area. We offer 20+ years of college coaching experience: from the ACC on down. Those years have allowed us to work with and learn from Top 25 level coaches in the college game in addition to the USA Olympic National Team.

Those relationships give us and our athletes unmatched access which is irreplaceable when it comes to recruiting as well as keeping up with the latest training techniques in the sport.

Add that to the organizational systems of the Skyline family- which has been proven to be a Top 5 club in the Nation- and you have a club dynamic like no other in the Jacksonville area!
